Welcome to this introduction to the history of an ancient place, once described as ‘The Queen of Villages’ by the poet James Montgomery.
WCHG was established in 1979 to generate an interest in the history of Wath Upon Dearne and its locality. To that end we have met quarterly since 1979, typically featuring an illustrated presentation with a clear emphasis on Wath.
During 2015-16 topics covered: Wath Town Hall, Rockingham Pottery, Dearne & Dove Canal, Home Front in the Great War, Church Groups in Wath & West Melton, Law & Disorder.
